The GBCVB is pleased to recognize and honor individuals, organizations, and events that drive the local economy, showcase Birmingham’s vibrant culture, enhance the region’s reputation as a premier destination, and provide world-class experiences for every resident and visitor.
In 2025, the GBCVB launched a Tourism Hall of Fame to honor individuals who have made a lasting impact on tourism in Greater Birmingham.
2026 inductees include former Mayor of Birmingham, Dr. Richard Arrington and founder of Barber Motorsports Park and Museum, Mr. George Barber.

The Hall’s inaugural honoree was Alabama State Senator Jabo Waggoner. Waggoner co-sponsored the legislation that created the GBCVB in 1969 and has served on the GBCVB Board of Directors since 1993.
At the 2026 GBCVB Annual Meeting, the organization announced the winners of the inaugural GBCVB Tourism Awards.
Award winners displayed excellence in one or more of the following areas –
Renaissance Ross Bridge Golf Resort & Spa
This award honors a hotel, and its team, that goes above and beyond in delivering exceptional guest service and hospitality.
The recipient demonstrates a strong commitment to creating memorable experiences, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and comfort, and showing genuine care for visitors.
Innovation, teamwork, and contributions to the community or local tourism industry were also considered.
Birmingham Zoo
This award recognizes an attraction that stands out by providing an outstanding visitor experience and contributes to the overall appeal of Greater Birmingham as a destination.
It celebrates creativity, consistency, and excellence in operations, as well as a positive impact on the local economy.
Consideration was given to unique offerings, visitor growth, and commitment to accessibility and sustainability.
Perfect Game USA
This award celebrates a sporting event or organization that significantly enhances local tourism, drives visitation, and builds community pride.
The recipient demonstrates excellence in event execution, participant experience, and collaboration with local partners.
Factors such as economic impact, sportsmanship, and youth or community engagement were also considered.
Full Moon BBQ
This award recognizes a restaurant that elevates the local dining scene and enhances the visitor experience through exceptional food, service, and atmosphere.
Emphasis is placed on quality, creativity, and community involvement, including the use of local ingredients and participation in tourism or civic initiatives.
Positive guest feedback and media recognition strengthened consideration.
Sidewalk Film Festival
This award celebrates a festival or cultural event that showcases creativity, inclusivity, and community spirit.
It highlights an event that celebrates local traditions, heritage, or artistic expression while generating tourism and economic benefits for the region.
Successful promotion, attendance growth, and strong volunteer or partner involvement was considered.

The Greater Birmingham Convention & Visitors Bureau (GBCVB) is the official tourism and marketing organization for Birmingham and Jefferson County. Established in 1969, the non-profit agency generates positive economic impact by positioning the Greater Birmingham Region as a premier destination for conventions, sporting events, and domestic and international leisure travel. Birmingham and its neighboring municipalities welcome more than 4.04 million visitors each year, generating $2.57 billion in economic impact.
