Formerly the A.G. Gaston Motel. In its heyday, it was Birmingham’s only first-class motel for lodging African-Americans.
Many of the primary civil rights leaders, including the Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., stayed at the motel when they came to town for strategy meetings.
