Rickwood Field
Built in 1910, Rickwood Field is America' s oldest baseball park. During its heyday, Rickwood hosted baseball greats such as Jackie Robinson, Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Lorenzo "Piper" Davis, Willie Mays and "Shoeless" Joe Jackson. The authenticity of Rickwood is being carefully preserved by the Friends of Rickwood Field, a non-profit organization devoted to the restoration and upkeep of the historic ball field. Open Monday- Friday, 9am- 4pm. Check events schedule for expanded hours. While the historic ballpark is no longer home to a full-time professional franchise, it regularly welcomes high-profile games: The Rickwood Classic: An annual minor league game where the AA Birmingham Barons wear vintage uniforms to celebrate baseball history. The MLB East-West Classic: An annual event held around Juneteenth that honors the historic Negro Leagues All-Star Games with youth clinics, a home run derby, and an exhibition game. The Hank Aaron Invitational ("44 Game"): An annual showcase game featuring top national high school baseball prospects playing in front of professional scouts. HBCU and Amateur Tournaments: Periodic multi-team events, such as the Willie Mays Open hosted by Miles College, alongside adult amateur tournaments like Play at the Plate.
