Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark
Sloss Furnaces is the only museum in the country that is currently preserving and interpreting a 20th century blast furnace site as a museum of industry. Explore the complex array of machines, pipes, and buildings that allowed this site to produce 1.6 million pounds of iron per day. Learn the process of smelting iron ore into iron bars, how it built the city of Birmingham, and the experiences of the workers who made it all happen. Sloss Furnaces is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10am-4pm. Self-guided tours are free. Guided tours are $10 per person and can be registered for on our website.
