Four Birmingham chefs and one restaurant were announced as semifinalists for the 2026 James Beard Awards, one of the food and beverage world’s most prestigious honors.
Birmingham semifinalists include:
– Rob McDaniel of Bayonet, Outstanding Chef
– Kristen Hall of La Fête, Best Chef (South)
– Geri-Martha O’Hara and Ryan O’Hara of Pizza Grace, Best Chef (South)
– Eric Bennett of Continental Drift, Outstanding Professional in Cocktail Service
– Bottega, Outstanding Hospitality
Restaurant and Chef finalists will be announced March 31, and winners will be celebrated at the James Beard Foundation Restaurant and Chef Awards Ceremony June 15, 2026, at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.

Birmingham’s culinary reputation continues to grow, with more than 60 James Beard Award winners and nominees and national coverage from AFAR, The New York Times, Southern Living and Food & Wine. This recognition follows the success of the 2025 Southbound Food Festival, recently named the No. 3 Best New Festival in the U.S. by USA Today.
